Suffixes

Suffixes are attached to other words, but cannot stand alone. A suffix beginning with a vowel replaces the final vowel of the base.

There are two categories of suffixes proper: depending on whether they move vocabulary items from one lexical class to another. Determiners, which are used to specify the reference of a noun, can also be treated as suffixes.
